Laura Jane Cruz
July 10, 1934 - December 25, 2009

Born on July 10, 1934, Laura Jane Cruz was a woman of great faith and endurance. She married at a young age of twenty-four to Abel Cruz, the only man that could complete her awe-inspiring heart. They lived a great and joyful life together, both praising God and working hard in every aspect of their lives. Being a faithful wife and a loving mother wasn’t enough for Laura, who decided to transform her lovely home into a home health care for elderly women. She took care of many women for several years, all who found the loving touch of Laura Cruz to be a blessing in their lives. Her loving daughter and tender granddaughter were very close to Laura and her husband Abel. Close to their forty-sixth anniversary, Abel Cruz was called to be with the Lord on April 15, 2004. Although this was a time for mourning for all that knew the great man Abel Cruz, Laura persevered with great faith in Christ. Since the passing of Abel, Laura spent most of her time with her daughter Stella and granddaughter, Ariana, and even found companionship with her dog named Abby. At a time that seems unfair, the Lord again called on the Cruz family. Laura went to be with the Lord on December 25, 2009. We can rest assured that her faith in the Lord has brought her to a triumphant place of happiness, and that she is now with her dearest Abel, praising God with a beautifully restored body. Although she will be gratefully missed, Laura’s humble and giving spirit will live on in the lives she touched every day. Her daughter, granddaughter, sisters and brother, nieces and nephews, and even great nieces and great nephews will remember Laura Cruz for the amazing women of Christ she was. Laura is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Abel Cruz; brothers William Andrew Starr, Jr., James Lloyd Starr Sr., and Irvin Leo Starr Sr.; sisters Virginia "Jimmy" Lambaria and Edna Earlene Starr. Survivors include daughter Stella Morales and husband Raul of Jourdanton, granddaughter Ariana Foster of Jourdanton and grandsons Justin Morales of San Antonio and Chase Morales of Houston; brother Thomas Eugene Starr and wife Lorraine of San Antonio; sisters Julia Ann "Judy" Brown and husband Tommy of San Antonio, Dorothy Lee Lambaria of Jourdanton, and Dollie Mae Hames of San Antonio. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM, on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 1700 Campbell, Jourdanton, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 31, 2009. Interment will follow in San Jose Cemetery, Jourdanton.
