Edward Emil Pavel, age 89, of Charlotte, Texas passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010, in Jourdanton, Texas. He is survived by his son, Larry Pavel of Corpus Christi, Marilyn Pavel Roberts and husband James of Charlotte. He is also survived by his grandchildren, David Pavel and wife Lizzy of Kingwood, Cody Roberts, Jerrod Roberts and Cherlyn Roberts all of Charlotte, Lindsay Pavel of Corpus Christi; great grandson, Caleb Pavel of Kingwood, as well as his sister and brother, Celestine "Sally" Ford and husband Marvin of Little River, Joe Pavel, Jr.of Georgetown; sisters-in-law, Wilma "Memo" Briggs of Charlotte, Irene Pavel of Bartlett, Margaret Raemsch of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Shelley Beran and husband Cal of Kingwood and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian (Raemsch) Pavel and son, Dwayne Pavel, sister, Tillie Pavel, brother, Antone Pavel. Mr. Pavel was an active particpant in the local VFW. He served his country in the United States Army and received a Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star. During his time of military service he was stationed in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon. He was aboard the vessel that was scheduled to invade Japan, but the atomic bomb was dropped and their mission was cancelled. Prior to entering the military he worked at the Three Rivers Refining Plant. His heavy equipment career began with the military and continued into civilian life with him working with Bob Berry and D. D. Hoover. He eventually started a partnership with his brother-in-law, Guy Briggs, in 1955. In 1969 Eddie went out on his own and continued operating heavy equipment until his death. He was always good at giving technical advice on equipment and trucks. In his free time he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren and was always there to help them process their trophies. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 West Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton from 2:00PM - 8:00PM on Sunday, January 24, 2010. The family will received friends between the hours of 5:00PM and 7:00PM on Sunday evening. The funeral service will be held at 10:00AM on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Hurley Funeral Home (Pleasanton).
